New Exhibit
The Fairfield Foundation is proud to announce
the opening of their new exhibit - The Women of Fairfield Plantation.
The exhibit is on display at the Gloucester Museum of History
and will remain there through the end of May, 2006. The exhibit
will then travel to other area museums. The exhibit focuses on
the lives of women during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries
at Fairfield plantation, including Thomas Jefferson's "Fair
Belinda" and the African-American tenant farmer who lived
in the manor house before it burned in 1897. For a more in-deth
view of the roles of women on the plantation as well as lesson
plans for middle and high school students check out our On-Line
Exhibit page and stay tuned to What's
New.
Website (Re-)Construction
The Fairfield website
is undergoing a massive renovation. We're restructuring the website
and expanding it to provide you with new information, photos,
downloads, and other items. If you have any questions about the
excavations, artifacts, the Burwell and Thruston families, archaeology
in Gloucester County or other topics, don't hesitate to get in
touch with us. We welcome any comments or suggestions for making
the website even better. Thanks for your patience and interest.
Lab Nights
Our popular lab nights
at the Rosewell Visitor Center will remain on Thursday evenings
from 6 until 9 p.m. Come in for an exciting evening of washing
and labelling artifacts and discussing archaeology in a fun and
relaxing atmosphere. No experience is necessary, just call or
email us if you are interested.
Additional

for interested volunteers to work in the lab and in the field.

in the excavations just give us a call or send an email: (804)
